The Basics of Writing

I often think back to how all this writing began for me. I may have dreamed of my writing going public, but I definitely didn’t believe in myself enough to think it would become a reality. 

Writing started as a hobby for me, and it really still is, although I am selling some of my hobby now. I don’t say this to brag but to share about how it began for me, to go back to the basics. 

I began with poetry. I enjoy writing poetry. There was a time when I wrote a lot of poems, nearly every day. As I think back on this, I can see how I was having a need to release creativity. The poetry writing was tightly connected to my faith and prayers. If someone asked me to pray for them, I sometimes had inspiration to write a poem. This practice helped me in so many ways. It was a therapeutic process. 

The ”basics” for me meant simply to sit down and write whatever was in my head, or in my heart. I believe it can still be that simple. The basics.
