Gold and Green

Back in about 2016 I spent a day in Chicago. Completely alone. Just me, no family or friend, or co-worker. I had flown in for work and had a full day to myself before attending a conference. I had never been to Chicago, nor ever ridden in an Uber. Luckily, the Uber driver who took me from the hotel to Michigan Street in the tourist part of Chicago, had compassion on me and gave me clear instructions on what to do and where to go. She even told me where to end my day to schedule my Uber ride back to the hotel when I was ready to get back.

The driver dropped me off in front of the big kidney. I took obligatory pictures then headed out. I made a big circle and found myself sitting in a park that extended out along Lake Michigan. It was a beautiful park. I made my way to a bench and sat. My feet were tired and hurting so I welcomed the rest. As I sat, I watched people going by. I enjoyed the view of Autumn in Chicago. While I sat, I took the attached picture of the trees, and the poem came to me easily. It was one of those special and clarifying moments in life. I needed the rest and the calm that came over me that afternoon. The next few days were all about work, but that afternoon was all about peace.
