Valentine’s Day and Birthdays

Valentine’s Day is a fun day to celebrate having a Valentine to celebrate, but it may not always be a fun day for everyone. It may pour salt on a wound for some. I feel for those in that situation.

For my husband, Vernon, and I, we might choose to go out to dinner but most years we do not do a lot. We agreed many years ago that we did not need gifts for Valentine’s Day.

Personally, I have always felt it to be an over-priced event that we choose to spend the same amount of money elsewhere. So, we have done that for the past 30+ years of Valentine’s Days.

Birthdays, on the other hand, are special in our family. Every year that we can celebrate another new year ahead is cause for celebration, in my opinion.

February 22 is my Valentine’s birthday. While Vernon is not big on birthdays, I try to make sure to either make him a special dinner or go out for a special meal. He was born on George Washington’s Birthday and his mom always made him some kind of dessert with cherries. I have tried to keep up that same tradition, although a few years we have wavered from cherry to another kind of dessert. Not many but it has happened.

We have not yet made plans for his birthday this year, but we will celebrate it one way or another.

Happy Birthday, Vernon! I love you forever and always!
